A lorry driver who died after transporting piles of rotting seaweed was yesterday being examined to see if it poisoned him. The death was originally recorded as a heart attack but investigators want an in-depth check to see if the algae played a part. Beaches full of rotting sea lettuce giving off deadly hydrogen sulphide gas have already alarmed scientists. The seaweed build-up is blamed on farmers putting lots of nitrates in soil.
